Easy Mother’s or Father's Day Breakfast Ideas that any Kiwi Kid can Make

Whether you treat Mum or Dad to breakfast in bed with these easy and super yummy breakfast ideas will wow everyone.

Fancy Mother’s of Father’s Day Breakfast Toast

Rather than reaching for your usual toast toppings, try these tasty, gourmet ideas:

  • Spread ricotta cheese on toasted bread then add sliced strawberries, blueberries or sultanas.

  • Layer peanut butter, sliced banana and sprinkle with a pinch of cinnamon.

Serve your fancy toast with your Mum’s favourite fruit and yoghurt…

OR

Carefully slice up your Mum’s favourite fruit and create a small fruit salad, topped with a sprig of mint (if you have some growing in your garden).


“Good Morning” Muesli Trifle

All you need for this simple recipe is:

  • a tall glass,

  • Mum’s favourite muesli,

  • honey-sweetened Greek yoghurt

  • and fruit to top.

Spoon a layer of muesli into the bottom of the glass. Use the spoon to push the muesli down into a flat layer.

Next, spoon a layer of yoghurt into the glass. Repeat until the glass is full. Top with sliced fruit.

To really impress, layer another glass with different coloured, sliced fruit and serve alongside the muesli trifle.


Mother’s or Father’s Day Muffin Mug

Surprise Mum or Dad with a fresh, homemade blueberry muffin. This recipe only takes 5 minutes to prepare and 90 seconds to cook!

What you need:

  • ¼ cup self-raising flour

  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

  • ½ tablespoon margarine or softened butter

  • 2 tablespoons milk

  • 2 tablespoons frozen blueberries

  • Pinch of cinnamon

  • 1 microwave-safe mug


What to do:

  1. Mix flour, brown sugar and cinnamon together in the mug.

  2. Add the margarine/butter and use your fingers (or a teaspoon) to smoosh it into the dry mixture until no large chunks remain.

  3. Add milk and stir into the mixture until you have a thick batter.
    If the mixture is too dry, add a little more milk.

  4. Place the blueberries on top of the mixture and gently push them down into the batter.

  5. Microwave for 90 seconds.
    Every microwave is different, so start by only microwaving your muffin for 60 seconds and see if it is cooked through.

  6. Wait for the muffin to cool and enjoy!

Make sure you ask an adult before using the microwave.
