How to make Ghoulishly Good Halloween Treats
Halloween is a great excuse to invite some friends over to host your own Halloween party. Aside from spooky stories and creepy costumes, you’ll need some devilishly tasty treats.
Here’s how to whip up this hauntingly good Halloween platter…
Eye Ball Cookies
What you’ll need:
1 packet of Oreo biscuits
Blue or green edible writing gel
Red edible writing icing
Dried blueberries, raisins or other small, round, dark fruit.
How to make eye ball cookies:
Hold one side of the Oreo biscuit in each hand and gently twist to separate them.
Set aside the biscuit with no icing on it.
Use the writing gel to make a small blue or green circle on the biscuit with the white icing on it.
Place a dried blueberry (or other fruit) in the centre of the coloured gel.
Next, use the edible red writing icing to draw lines coming from the blue or green gel.
Mmmmmm… eye balls…
Monster Mouth Bites
What you’ll need:
Green apples
Ask an adult to cut these into quarters (avoiding the core) and with a wedge carved out of the green side of each quarter.Strawberries
Ask an adult to thinly slice the strawberries, length ways.Peanut butter
Sunflower seeds
White Marshmallows (small and/or large) cut in half.
Black edible writing icing
How to make monster mouths:
Spread peanut butter inside the missing wedge of each apple quarter – this will be the inside of your monster’s mouth.
To make your monster’s teeth, gently push sunflower seeds into the apple flesh (around where you spread the peanut butter).
Place your strawberry tongue on top of the peanut butter, so that it is sticking out of your monster’s mouth.
To make the eyes, use the writing icing to draw a small black circle in the middle of one or two marshmallows. Add a little more icing to the back of the marshmallow and stick them to the top part of your monster’s mouth
Witches Hat Biscuits
What you’ll need:
Toffee Pop biscuits (or you can use the left over Oreo biscuits from the Eye Ball Cookies)
Hershey’s kisses
Yellow or orange edible writing icing
Mini Marshmallows
How to make your witches hats:
Squeeze a circle of writing icing around the bottom of a Hershey’s Kiss.
Gently place the iced bottom of Hershey’s Kiss in the very middle of the top of a Toffee Pop.
Using the writing icing, squeeze a yellow or orange circle around where the Hershey’s Kiss touches the Toffee Pop.
Put one of the mini marshmallow slices on one side of the Hershey’s Kiss (where it connects with the Toffee Pop), to create a buckle on the Witches Hat.
Ghostly Marshmallows
What you’ll need:
Large, fluffy Marshmallows (we got ours from the sweets station at New World).
Black, edible writing icing
How to make your ghostly marshmallows:
Use the writing icing to draw two eyes and a large mouth on each marshmallow
Enjoy eating your spooky treats!
Mini Pumpkins
What you’ll need:
Mandarins
Tooth picks
Green snake lollies (cut in half) or any other similar lolly.
For a healthy option, try using sliced celery sticks.
How to make your mini pumpkins:
Peel your mandarins, removing as much white pith as possible.
Use a tooth pick to emphasise the lines where each mandarin segment connects – this makes it look more like a pumpkin.
Gently push a green snake lolly into the centre of the mandarin so that a little bit is sticking out of the top.
Surprise your friends with your sweet “pumpkin” treats!
