Home Made Sausage Rolls Recipe
Prepare this special sausage roll filling, pop it into a ready-made pastry, bake and enjoy!
Prep time: 10-15 minutes
Cook time: 30-40 minutes
Serves: 4-8 people as part of a lunch or as a snack. This recipe makes two big long sausage rolls for cutting up and sharing.
REMEMBER: always ask permission from a grown-up before you start cooking
What you need:
3 Pork Sausages (we used Heller’s but you can use any other quality sausages)
One large carrot
One medium courgette
Two sheets of defrosted Puff Pastry
Dried sage
Mustard
Tomato sauce
Egg wash – one beaten egg
Sesame seeds
Baking paper
What to do:
Preheat the oven to 180C.
Grate the vegetables.
Squeeze the sausage meat out of the sausage skins, put the meat into a bowl and mix in the grated vegetables.
Spoon the meat along the middle of the pastry sheet leaving about a 4cm gap either side.
Add the tomato sauce, mustard and bay leaves to the meat. You can add as much or as little of these as you like or use your own favorite herbs and sauces instead.
Spread one side of the pastry with egg wash and fold the other side over so that the two sides stick together. Press down the crust and use a fork to seal it fully.
Spread a little egg wash over the top of your pastry (this will help to make it golden) and sprinkle on some sesame seeds.
Poke a few holes into the sausage role with your fork to let the steam come out as it cooks.
When you have made your two sausage rolls put them in the oven on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Bake them for about 40 minutes or until golden and crispy.
When they are ready and cooled you can slice and enjoy.
