Easter Bunny Paw Print Cookies Recipe
These cute, colourful, homemade cookies are perfect for Easter! They are soft and chewy with a sweet, buttery, vanilla flavour.
While this recipe shows you how to make bunny paw print cookies, you can easily roll out this dough and cut them into any shapes you like.
REMEMBER: always ask permission from a grown-up before you start cooking.
What you need:
Cookie dough:
1 cup soft, unsalted butter
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
3 cups plain flour
Cling film
Baking tray
Baking paper
Cookie icing:
1 cup icing sugar
1 tablespoon milk
Red and/or blue food colouring
A re-sealable sandwich bag
What to do:
Cream the butter and sugar.
Add eggs and vanilla extract. Stir.
Add salt, baking soda and baking powder. Mix.
Don’t worry if your mixture is lumpy, it will come together once you add the flour.Add flour and stir until combined.
Cut your cookie dough in half and wrap each half in cling film.
Refrigerate dough for at least 1 hour. You can also freeze the dough for later use.
Use a table spoon to measure out a ball of cookie dough.
Break the cookie dough into four parts. One large part (for the rabbit foot) and three smaller parts (for the rabbit toes).
Roll all four parts into balls and position them on a lined baking tray, so that it looks like a bunny paw.
Because the larger ball will bake at a slower rate than the smaller balls, gently press this ball down a little. DO NOT press down the small balls – these will spread during the baking process.Bake for 8 – 10 minutes at 180 degrees, or until they start to brown slightly.
Never use an oven without the help of an adult.Once removed from the oven, immediately use a teaspoon to gently press indents into the cookies (for the icing to go into).
Make one big indent on the bunny paw and little ones on the bunny toes. While the cookies are cooling, make your icing by mixing 1 cup of icing sugar with 1 tablespoon of milk. The icing should be runny. So, add more milk if necessary.
Add food colouring (one drop at a time) until it’s the colour you desire.
Put a sandwich bag in an empty glass on an angle, so that one corner is at the bottom of the glass.
Spoon the icing into the sandwich bag.
When you are ready to ice your cookies, use scissors to cut a small hole in the bottom corner of the sandwich bag – this will allow you to use it to pipe the icing into the cookie indents.
Allow the icing to set and enjoy.
