Here’s how to whip up the Upstart Festive Feast platter for kids…
Mallowpuff Xmas Puddings
In the olden days, Christmas Puddings used to be made from beef, mutton, raisins, prunes and spices. These days, most are a rich plum pudding. If neither of these sound appealing, then try making these Mallowpuff puddings. They’re guaranteed to bring a smile to most people’s faces!
What you’ll need:
Mallowpuffs
Green jet planes (we got ours from a pick and mix)
White chocolate buttons
Jaffas
How to make Mallowpuff Christmas Puddings:
Melt the white chocolate buttons (ask an adult for help).
Please your Mallowpuff on a plate.
Spoon a small amount of white chocolate onto the top of the Mallowpuff so that it drips down the sides. Leave to cool.
Cut the jet plane into leaf shaped pieces.
Before the white chocolate sets completely, place a Jaffa on top and one of two leaves on either side.
Enjoy!
Chocolate Reindeer
Rudolf is the most famous of all of Santa’s reindeer. He helped guide Santa’s sleigh through a storm, with his shiny nose, and saved Christmas! Try making these chocolate reindeer to give as gifts this festive season.
What you’ll need:
Chocolate Wheaten biscuits
Small white chocolate buttons
Jaffas
Black writing icing
Small pretzels
How to make Chocolate Reindeer:
Use the black writing icing to draw a small black dot on two of the white chocolate buttons. These will be Rudolf’s eyes.
Melt the remaining white chocolate buttons (ask an adult for help).
Place the biscuit so that the chocolate side is facing down.
Place a small dot of melted chocolate on the bottom of each of the pretzels. Place a pretzel on each side of the biscuit, so that the top of the pretzel overhangs the biscuit edge.
Once the chocolate is set, carefully turn the biscuit over.
Use the remaining melted chocolate to stick Rudolf’s eyes and a Jaffa (his nose) to the centre of the biscuit.
Wrap in cellophane and give as gifts to those you love.
Gingerbread Reindeer
If you’re not a fan of lots of chocolate, try making this gingerbread version of Rudolf, for yourself or for gifts for others.
What you’ll need:
Gingerbread dough
Gingerbread man cookie cutter
Blue and red M&Ms
Black writing icing
White writing icing
How to make your Gingerbread Reindeer:
Use the cookie cutter to cut your Gingerbread into Gingerbread men shapes and bake (as directed in the recipe).
Once the cookies have cooled, turn the men upside down (so that their heads are facing downwards). This creates the perfect reindeer face shape!
Use the white writing icing to draw a reindeer face and antlers on the cookie.
Dot the back of two blue M&Ms with icing and stick these on the centre of the cookie.
Draw a small circle on each of the blue M&Ms with the black icing.
Finally, dot the back of one red M&M and place this below the reindeer eyes – now Rudolf has a nose!
Watermelon Christmas Trees
For a refreshing, healthy festive treat, try making these super simple Watermelon Christmas Trees.
What you’ll need:
Slices of watermelon (approximately 1.5cm thick)
Christmas Tree cookie cutter
How to make your ghostly marshmallows:
Place the cookie cutter so that the tree truck section is on the watermelon skin and press down.
By doing this your Xmas Trees will look like they have green trucks AND people will have a way to hold your Christmas Trees, as they eat them.Carefully remove your watermelon Christmas tree and present on a plate.
Use other cookie cutter shapes to cut up the rest of your watermelon slice, so that none goes to waste.
